Sometimes we have to sit next to people we would would rather avoid, when travelling on a plane to Spain. That said, there are no reasons to accept any pain when actively involved in a walking holiday in this fascinating country.
Whenever I here conversation about walking holidays anywhere in the world, people seem to react in a similar way – they don’t really fancy the aches and pains. It’s normal to want to pamper yourself whilst on holiday, so I suppose you can’t blame people for feeling that way? This is obviously true, especially when thinking of all the amazing beaches that Spain has to offer. If you are a fan of active holidays, you may like to think differently. If you have chosen a walking holiday, then you will benefit from a moment to prepare before beginning your adventure. Walking needn’t be associated with pain, if time-honoured principles and good common sense is observed.
One of my favourite methods of protecting my feet, for example, is to reach for the ubiquitous Vaseline or Neutrogena foot cream. It you use it liberally before putting on your socks, you will notice a huge difference. If you do get a blister, clean it well with alcohol and prick it with a needle or a pin that has been sterilised. Drain out the fluid from the blister and apply antibiotic cream, finishing with a plaster or sports tape. This is all the maintenance that is needed to set you off for the next day.
Losing a toenail is another common problem for some runners and walkers. Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt much and it will soon grow back again. To avoid this happening, it is best to keep your toenails short so that do not chafe against your shoes.
