SPA Breaks In the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has always been a popular choice for families or those seeking more active pursuits like windsurfing, sailing and paragliding.Part of the attraction lies in its relative proximity (door-to-door to the island from central London can be done in around three hours) and the fact that, although it’s just across the Solent, the ferry crossing makes it “feel like you’re going on holiday”. More than half the island is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the minute you step off the ferry and glimpse the stunning scenery you can appreciate why.
Now hotels on the Isle of Wight have extended the idea of a total relaxation holiday beyond just glorious views and a quiet, unhurried pace by offering spa, holistic, health and beauty treatments. Many others that don’t have spa facilities on the premises have begun to offer yoga and meditation classes as part of the package. Some may say that these offerings really are “gilding the lily” as the Isle of Wight is probably relaxing enough on its own merits, but more couples are seeking an “adults only” break and a Spa experience is considered an essential part of that.
The Melville Hall Hotel and Utopia Spa in Sandown is just one recent entrant into this sector, offering a wide range of treatments, from indulgent massages and de-toxifying body wraps to beautifying facials and holistic therapies designed to relax and revitalise.Foxhills Hotel in Shanklin offers body and beauty therapy treatments incorporating a whirlpool spa and use of a swimming pool, sauna and gym. Even established hotels, such as Bourne Hall Country House Hotel in Shanklin, are getting in the Spa break act by offering special holistic, yoga and meditation breaks with individual treatments that include aromatherapy massage, Indian head massage, Reflexology Reiki and Swedish massage
All this pampering for mind and body can be achieved by taking Isle of Wight ferries from the Gunwharf Quay terminal in Portsmouth to Fishbourne or Ryde after a crossing of around 40 minutes (the FastCat catamaran service takes only 18 minutes).
