How to Make that Unique Gift (Even the One’s You Don’t Like) Work for Someone!

Don’t you wish you actually got something you liked? There really is a simple answer to all this gift giving business. The answer is Gift Baskets.

We all know that aunt Margaret doesn’t give coffee gift baskets. That’s why I’m hear to help.

Anyone has been given a present that is just-not-what-you-had-in-mind. You can give it to charity, or post it on www.freecycle.com where everything donated is free to users. You might hide the horrible gift in a box where you may never run into it again. Whatever you do please do not throw the gift away.

We all know about re-gifting, a risky and often unsavory practice. Regifting is never a acceptable practice. Most importantly if the individual that gave you the gift finds out. There are numerous ways to put the gift to use, without the awkward and deliberate re-wrapping and passing along.

1. Make a special gift box. It is wise to label the gift with where and when you got it.

2. If you receive stuff you can’t use put it all together in the box.

3. Make sure to lump together similar items, i.e. electronics.

4. Try to give multiples of a like item. Take DVDs for an example. Take the films, wrap them individually, and put them in a large popcorn bowl. Purchase two boxes of gourmet popcorn, popcorn flavorings (often available at Ross stores, TJ Maxx and Target) and some hot chocolate. If you are giving the films to an adult or family, put in a homemade gift certificate for one night of free babysitting (if they have kids). Regifting, if done properly, can be personal and inexpensive. Make sure that you are not giving the gift back to the individual you originally received it from.

With a bit of experience and personalization re-gifting can be acceptable and fun (as long as you don’t get caught!)
