At the start of 2009, holiday company Activities Abroad sent an email to each of it’s customers. The email got a number of people angry because they claimed they can offer ‘Chav-free’ holidays.
The campaign by the company seems to have paid off, despite email responses from a number of customers. The company that offers a range of active holidays have recently reported that they have seen a 32% rise in sales. it does go to show, not alot of people want to holiday with chavs.
The way that the company claims they have ‘chav-free’ is by saying that the names of their customers are not chav names. Within the email that they sent, they said that their customers are more likely to have names like Michael, Alice and Michael, this email went out to their 24,000 customers.
The company also said that if you book a holiday with themselves, you are less likely to be holidaying with people named Dazza or Chardonnay which are considered ‘chav’ names.
They then carried on with some name based education statistics. They said that if you have a name like Duncan or Alice you are almost 10 times more likely to pass your GCSE’s. Compared to people who are called Wayne or Dwayne.
Even though the company received a large number of emails from angry customers, the company said that they are pleased with their campaign.
A spokesman spoke with Sky News and said this: “Essentially, our clientele has embraced the tongue-in-cheek nature of the original campaign and, having examined the names of the people booked to travel with the company this summer, we can report that there is not a Kylie-Lianne or K’Tee in sight!”
So, if you are fed up of going on your antarctica holidays with a bunch of Dwayne’s and Wayne’s and you’d much rather go on a galapagos holiday and mingle with some respectable Duncan’s and Alice’s, then maybe a ‘chav-free’ holiday is what you need.
